5 Exhibitions Coming to the AGO

Living at Waverley puts you just a short walk away from the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO).  This incredible gallery features an expansive collection of art collections by Canadian artists, plus rotating exhibitions by some of the world's most renowned artists.

Andy Warhol 

See some of Warhol's most famous pieces including Marilyn Diptych and 100 Campbell's Soup Cans plus some of his lesser known works from this collection. Visitors will enjoy pieces that span more than 40 years of Warhol's career. Listen to the associated audio catalogue, which frames the impact of Warhol's works in the contemporary digital world. This exhibition is open now until October 24, 2021. 

Peter Pitseolak

Get a unique glimpse into the Inuit way of life during the 1930s and 1940s through the lens of Peter Pitseolak. The world's first Inuit photographer, Pitseolak picked up his craft under extreme weather conditions to document hunting trips and other daily activities by the Inuit people, with the intention of passing this knowledge off to his grandchildren. Today, many people from around the world share his experience, getting an intimate look at this lifestyle through the works of Pitseolak. The exhibition is on now and will be removed from the AGO on December 12, 2021.

Matthew Wong: Blue View

Explore the works of Toronto-based artist Matthew Wong from August 13, 2021 until next April. Though Wong's career as an artist was short-lived, his melancholy work, characterized by a consistent use of intense blue hues, has had an incredible impact on contemporary art. This self-taught artist embodied many different art styles in his works, and this collection showcases them all. 

Picasso: Painting the Blue Period

For the first time in Canada, some of Picasso's most early and awe-inspiring works are on display. Find them at the AGO beginning on October 6, 2021 and staying until mid-January 2022. Explore Picasso's first adventures with shades of blue through works dating between 1901 and 1904. View these artworks alongside new research that adopts a more scientific approach to analyzing the mesmerizing works of Picasso.

Robert Houle: Red is Beautiful 

This exhibition showcases the diverse art of Robert Houle, a First Nations artist who recontextualizes Indigenous histories, cultures, and art styles alongside Western influences. Houle showcases a diverse network of Indigenous identities in his artworks, while also drawing inspiration from abstract expressionism. Additionally, Houle is known for engaging with a variety of media ranging from large installations to paintings and drawings. Explore Houle's work at the AGO beginning in early December and running until April 2022.
