Waverley Reveals the Former Silver Dollar Room Sign

This month, Waverley unveiled the restored former Silver Dollar Room sign. We at Waverley are proud to return the iconic neon sign to its original home at the intersection of College and Spadina.

The former Silver Dollar Room was a beloved and legendary Toronto music institution. The former Silver Dollar first opened its doors in 1959 and was often visited by guests of the adjacent Hotel Waverley. The room functioned as a cocktail lounge, jazz music venue, and haven of burlesque culture in its first couple of decades. Evolving with the music scene in Toronto over time, the former Silver Dollar would eventually play host to world-class music talent including the Pixies, Bob Dylan, Eddy Clearwater, Tokyo Police Club, Death from Above 1979, and many more.

Today, Waverley stands where the Hotel Waverley once stood. The site is rooted in history and Waverley name lives on. Now, after three years of being absent from public view, the familiar and vibrant former Silver Dollar Room sign hangs again in its original historic location. The sign was carefully restored by experts without impacting the integrity and beauty of the original piece.

Visit Waverley to catch a glimpse of Toronto history. We look forward to welcoming the tunes and bass back to College and Spadina.
