Spotlight: The Surreal Wolf by birdO at Waverley

Throughout Waverley, you will find custom curated art pieces.

One such contribution is by Jerry Rugg, better known as birdO, a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist with an unforgettable style and persona.

Working with canvas, digital print, and installation, pieces by award-winning birdO are easily identified through his unique style, vibrant colours, geometric shapes, and animal themes. He is primarily known for his beautiful and expansive interior and exterior murals. While his work is prolific in Toronto, he has also completed installations in Montreal, Saskatoon, Los Angeles, and Detroit. Whatever his canvas, birdO's works are always complemented by a distinct awareness of the surface he is working with and integrating it with the local culture and context.

Waverley's wolf mural is one of birdO's latest installations, which plays backdrop for the BoxCar Social café in the lobby lounge. This striking mural is titled "The Surreal Wolf", a playful work of art in his signature style that achieves a feeling of movement. The wolf featured in the mural appears to leap over people's heads as they gather, while howling at the figurative sun and moon that help frame the piece.

Enjoy installations from birdO and other exciting artists every day when you make Waverley your next home.
