An Eclectic Slice of Toronto History

Waverley enters an exciting history of iconic buildings standing at the corner of College & Spadina, with the Hotel Waverley and adjacent Silver Dollar Room preceding this brand new boutique apartment community.

Having opened in 1900, the affordable rent and monthly tenancies available at the Hotel Waverley had introduced a series of artists, writers, and others of notable fame to downtown Toronto for more than a century.

In the 1960s, the jazz and blues scene emerging out of The Silver Dollar Room forged an intimate connection between the neighbouring buildings, encouraging a larger roster of musical talent to visit the neighbourhood. Music lovers would have experienced Bobby Bland, Curley Bridges, Death from Above 1979, Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, The Barenaked Ladies, and Blue Rodeo in the halls of this bar and concert hall until it closed in 2017.

Registered as a heritage landmark, many of the site's original elements are reincorporated into the new space, including the venue's bar, stage, murals, terrazzo floor, and of course, the iconic Silver Dollar Room sign.

Re-imagined with an elegant twist, the Silver Dollar Room you'll see re-opened adjacent to Waverley today features teak paneling details, vibrant and royal upholsteries, tasteful metal finishes, illuminated bottle rise and gantry, and a tile feature wall at the entry.

Waverley offers residents the opportunity of becoming part of this eclectic and ongoing slice of Toronto history.
